What’s included
Why special equipment
For cargo too tall, wide or heavy for a standard container, or that has to be loaded by crane or from the side.
Machinery and equipment
For example generators, transformers, construction machinery, boats and steel structures.
Flat racks
A floor and end walls, with no sides or roof, so cargo can be lifted on from above or loaded from the side.
Open tops
Full sides and a removable tarpaulin roof, for tall cargo or cargo that has to be lowered in by crane.
Platforms
A flat deck with no walls at all, for the widest and heaviest pieces.
Booking and approval
We book the equipment with the shipping line and, for out-of-gauge cargo, get the line’s approval of the dimensions before the booking is confirmed.
Trucking in Egypt
Our flatbeds move the cargo between the port and your site.
Customs clearance
Export, import and transit clearance by our customs team.
In gauge or out of gauge?
It comes down to whether any part of the cargo sticks out past the outline of a standard container, shown as the dashed line.
In gauge (IG)
The cargo stays within the length, width and height of a standard container. It may still need a flat rack or open top to be loaded, but it is stowed on the ship like any other container.
Out of gauge (OOG)
Part of the cargo extends past the sides, ends or top. The shipping line has to approve the dimensions and plan where it goes on the ship, and the rate reflects any space it takes from neighbouring containers.
Not sure which yours is? Send us the dimensions and we’ll tell you.
